Thomas G. Borst

Thomas BorstMr. Borst's practice is devoted entirely to family law, where he has had considerable success for both men and women clients in negotiating settlement agreements and in litigation. His practice also include mediation, and since 2004, collaboration law. His current practice is comprised of all three models.

Especially in this economy, Mr. Borst finds that clients appreciate an understanding of the alternatives for resolving their divorce case as conservation of funds has become increasingly important.

Mr. Borst's preference is to resolve issues outside of court. When clients and their attorneys make a commitment to do that, which is the hallmark of mediation and collaborative divorce cases, the clients are best able to maintain control over their lives and the outcome of the issues in their divorce. That control helps to reduce the anxiety and financial cost attendant to the divorce process itself.

However, where litigation of issues is needed, Mr. Borst's years of courtroom experience are marshaled to provide strong and effective advocacy of the client's positions and the best interests of the children.

A native of the Bay Area, Mr. Borst was admitted to the California State Bar in 1988. He received his B.A. Degree in German from the University of California at Berkeley and graduated with Honors from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1988, where he served as an Editor of the Law Review.

Mr. Borst has been an active member (current Treasurer and past Steering Committee member) of the local collaborative practice group (now Collaborative Practice East Bay) and a member of The International Academy of Collaborative Professionals since 2004. Mr. Borst has been a member of our three local bar associations, Contra Costa County, Alameda County, and Eastern Alameda County, for the last 22 years. He served on the Board of The Eastern Alameda County Bar Association from 1994-2009 and is also a Past President (1999). He has served on the Board of Director's at his daughter's school since May 2007 and has very much enjoyed the challenges and rewards of that experience. You can often find him cycling in the East Bay hills on the weekend.

Len Weiler has been in the private practice of law since his admission to the California State Bar in 1976. His practice emphasizes Consensual Dispute Resolution, focusing primarily on collaborative practice, mediation, and negotiated settlements.

Mr. Borst believes it is important for every client to understand the alternative process paths to resolving their divorce, and then select the model that best suits their particular situation. Mr. Borst will help you make this crucial assessment.
